Evangelistic Witness

Salem Barnsley Wesleyan Reform Church

Salem has throughout its history emphasised work and witness through evangelism. Salem is the ‘mother church’ of the Barnsley Circuit of the Wesleyan Reform Union of Churches such that in the early days all Circuit meetings were held at Salem. The development of the Barnsley Circuit went ahead through the involvement of Salem, in particular the Hunningley Church in 1862, followed by Hoyle Mill. Salem has always loyally supported the Wesleyan Reform Union of Churches and has provided Wesleyan Reform Union national officers; in particular, Clifford Race (former Town Clerk of Barnsley Borough Council) was Wesleyan Reform Union President in 1964/65. Salem is involved in the governance of the Wesleyan Reform Union at present.
